According to reports, a 50-year-old Colorado resident, Kimberli Jones, was apprehended by the Alamosa Police Department on Thursday, February 9th, for allegedly attempting to kidnap a child from a mother in a Walmart shopping cart in Alamosa, Colorado. Jones has been charged with kidnapping, felony threatening, child abuse, and disorderly conduct. She is currently being held in custody at the Alamosa County Detention Center.
The police department expressed their gratitude to the courageous bystanders who sprang into action during the incident and detained the suspect until the authorities arrived. The department also noted that the toddler was safely reunited with their parents due to the swift actions of those inside the store at the time of the occurrence, according to a statement reported by the Daily Mail.

After traumatic experiences, the child was safely returned to his parents. However, it is not clear how close the shopping carts were at the time of the incident. Walmart shoppers also recalled a horrific incident when they described hearing loud screams from the other end of the store.
She was yelling, "I'm going to kill that fucking baby, someone call child protection services, call the cops," one person reported. "I was there, it was crazy. On Facebook another saying, "I was there and heard a lot of screaming coming from the other side of the store, that's exactly what was happening!"
The incident came at a time of a spike in child abduction cases. A Texas woman was arrested in a similar incident after she attempted to kidnap a four-year-old girl at a Walmart in San Antonio in September 2022.
The incident occurred when the suspect Jessica Vega tried to take a shopping cart with a girl in a child seat. The desperate mother screamed in horror when she realized that Vega had left with her son. During the confrontation, Vega reportedly told her mother, "Just because she's yours doesn't mean she can't take her with me."
The girl was saved only after witnesses and store employees came to the aid of her mother. Later, Vega was detained and accused of attempting to kidnap someone. It was later revealed that prior to her arrest, Vega was convicted of falsifying her cancer diagnosis to extort thousands of dollars from people to pay for her dream wedding and honeymoon, Ksat reported. Vega pleaded guilty after spending several months in prison in Orange County, New York, and was sentenced to probation and ordered redress.
