It has been determined who was driving an SUV that crashed into a group of people waiting at a bus stop in front of an immigrant center in Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday.
According to Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda, the Range Rover driver who hit 18 people and killed eight of them outside the Ozanam Center, a shelter for migrants and the destitute in the area, was George Alvarez.

Around 8:30 am on Sunday morning, the accident happened while the victims were waiting at a public transport stop near the center. According to Sauceda, Alvarez ran a red light, lost control of the SUV, which overturned on its side, and then struck a group of pedestrians. Authorities are now investigating whether the behavior was intentional.
According to the police chief, Alvarez allegedly tried to flee the scene of the collision but was stopped by other people. Police said two more people have died after the initial six deaths. A dozen other people were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals.
