Luz Hernandez, a Jersey City kindergarten teacher whose body was found in a shallow grave, reportedly died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. The 33-year-old mother-of-three was found dead near Central Avenue and Third Street in Kearny on Tuesday, February 7, when local police conducted a welfare check on her home.

Hernandez went missing on Monday, February 6, when she failed to report to BelovED Charter School, where she had been teaching since 2017. The officials' report said her
death was ruled a homicide on Thursday, February 9.

He also revealed that rescuers found blood spatter in the Hernandez residence. where she lived with her three children, aged 3, 9, and 12. According to a Pix11 report, she was last seen by her children's father, Junior Santana, on Saturday, February 4.

The death of the beloved kindergarten teacher came just months after her split from Santana, who was seen at church with the children on Sunday. The duo broke up in November, but Santana continued to live in her home, justifying why she couldn't leave, Hernandez's devastated sister told ABC New York.

The sudden death of a beloved mother shook the tight-knit city of Jersey City. Yajaira Germosen, Hernández's cousin, told ABC that Hernández was "kind" in looking back on her life. She was a lovely woman. I shall miss her so badly that I'm speechless. She's amazing. Her bereaved brother, Christiano Hernandez, said: "She loved children. She became a teacher because she loved being with children.”

After Hernandez's death, BelovED Charter School canceled all classes. School founder Bret Schundler stated, “People loved her. She was a wonderful collaborator. She was loved by a close-knit family. People are devastated by this,” NJ.com reports. "There will be a desire to commemorate her and there will be a desire to support her family," she added.

An investigation into whether Hernandez's death was a homicide is ongoing. According to Hudson County Attorney Esther Suarez, no arrests have been made as of this writing.
