Marie Barclay Wiki - Biography
Florida authorities say a 26-year-old babysitter, who is already accused of killing a child in her care and abusing another child, has been charged with seriously injuring a second child. According to court records investigated by Law & Crime, Haley Marie Barclay, who has already been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and multiple counts of child abuse, has been charged with a second count of aggravated child abuse in connection with beating a second child, a first-degree felony.
It
is absolutely disgusting to read that the same mother treated one child in
such a horrific manner that it caused his death and also caused another infant to
be seriously injured. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commented on
this in a press release. "I applaud our detectives for leading this
investigation as we work to bring justice to all victims," the detective
said.

Incident Details
Hillsborough
County Sheriff's Department deputies visited St. John Hopkins in St. Petersburg
at 6:35 a.m. on April 17 in connection with a child abuse investigation,
according to a statement of probable cause. Upon arrival at the victim's scene,
a CT scan was reportedly performed, which showed a fractured skull, a subdural
hematoma (bleeding into the space between the skull and the brain), and a
subarachnoid haemorrhage (bleeding into the area around the brain).
According
to the statement, the injuries required emergency surgery, during which doctors
had to "put a drain" into the boy's skull. After being admitted to
the intensive care unit, doctors told investigators that the victim's condition
was "deteriorating rapidly" and that the baby required sedation. Just
before midnight that night, when Barclay was questioned by investigators at her
home, she allegedly confessed to repeatedly brutally mistreating the victim in
the previous days.
According
to the defendant, the victim was shaken against his will on April 12, 2023,
sometime in the afternoon. The affidavit states that the defendant expressed
her frustration with the victim because "[they] didn't stop crying and
complaining all day." “The defendant claimed that she put the victim back
on the bed after shaking her for about a minute to stop her sobbing and
whining.
Then,
on April 13, 2023, sometime in the afternoon, the defendant testified that out
of frustration with the victim's constant crying and moaning, she once again
shook the victim against her will, holding her in front of her for about 30
seconds. The boy began acting "sad" and vomiting over the next few
days, and Barclay allegedly claimed she tried to manage the ailment with
Tylenol and Pedialyte rather than seeking medical help, according to an
affidavit.
After
seeing the infant "limp" in her arms on April 16, Barclay sought
medical attention at South Bay Hospital before being airlifted to John Hopkins
for more advanced care. The statement of probable cause states that Barclay
also produced a video of the torture she inflicted on the girl. In it, she
showed how she "grabbed the victim and shook [the victim] in front of
her" and how detectives saw "a doll's head moving back and forth
unsupported", according to the complaint.
On
April 17, Barclay was arrested and charged with three counts of serious child
abuse. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the boy died on April 21
from his injuries, and charges against Barclay were increased to manslaughter.
Authorities say investigating the infant's death found evidence that a second
victim was "injured" while in Barclay's care.
Agents
discovered a second infant suffered serious upper body injuries after being
taken from Barclay's care as a result of the original investigation, the HCSO
said. The second child's relationship with Barclay has not been made public.
When authorities introduced the additional charge of serious child abuse
resulting in grievous bodily harm, Barclay was already incarcerated at
Falkenburg Road Prison.
