Authorities have detained a woman accused of killing Bella Fontenelle, her boyfriend's daughter, and hiding the body outside the girl's mother's house in a plastic bucket. Hannah Landon has been charged with first-degree murder and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of Bella Fontenelle, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

 

The couple, Bella, 6, and Landon, 43, disappeared from their home in Harahan, Louisiana, on Wednesday morning, and Bella's father reported them missing to police based on a press release. Authorities found Bella's remains in a large bucket outside her mother's house nearly an hour later.

It is not known who first made this gruesome discovery. The statement claims Landon was seen the night before pulling a cart that contained a 10-gallon bucket of bleach in surveillance video that was discovered during the investigation. Authorities believe Landon killed Bella, put her body in a bucket, and then took it less than two blocks to the girl's front lawn.

 

The cause of Bella's death is kept secret during the investigation as the motivation for the crime is unknown according to officials. Jefferson Parish medical examiner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, as quoted by WVUE-TV, said her body had "multiple injuries."

 

The girl's father, according to investigators, was eliminated as a possibility. According to a source, Sheriff Joe Lopinto stated that "Dad had extensive interviews today and we don't believe he was involved in any way with the murder." As you'd expect from someone who suddenly lost a 6-year-old, he and his mother are very distraught.

 

According to authorities, Landon surrendered to Harahan police shortly after midnight on Wednesday. She was then taken to the hospital where she was eventually arrested. Landon was held without bail. It is not known whether she pleaded guilty or hired legal counsel to speak on her behalf.
