Teddy Duangpetch Promthep - Biography
One of the 12 kids who were rescued in 2018 from a Thai cave, Duangpetch Promthep, passed away in the UK. The 17-year-old from Leicestershire was discovered unconscious in his bedroom on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away on Tuesday, according to reports to the BBC. Since the end of last year, he has been enrolled in the British football academy.
He was the captain of the Thai men's soccer team that was trapped deep in a cave for over two weeks while exploring Chiang Rai province. His smiling face, caught in the light of a diver's flashlight after finding the boys in the cave, was one of the most memorable images of the rescue.

Promthep was taken by ambulance to Kettering General Hospital on Sunday afternoon, an East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said. A helicopter was also dispatched to the scene.
His teammates were overjoyed last August when Promthep, also known as Dom, announced on Instagram that he had won a scholarship to attend Brooke House College Football Academy in Market Harborough.
"Today my dream came true," he wrote. Just six months later, they mourn the loss of a friend. The news of his death came after his mother informed the Wat Doi Wao temple in his hometown of Chiang Rai, where the band attended, of his death.
"Dom's soul rests in peace," the post read, accompanied by photos of the soccer team with the monks. Messages from his teammates soon began pouring in. "You told me to wait and see you play for the national team, I always thought you would," wrote Prachak Sutham, one of the boys rescued from Promthep in 2018.

Brooke House College principal Ian Smith said they were "deeply saddened and shocked" by the deaths. Promthep turned 13 when he was trapped in a cave. His teammates ranged in age from 11 to 16, while his coach, Ekkaphon Kanthawong, was 25. The boys used rocks to dig holes to escape while their trainer taught them meditation techniques to help them stay calm and use as little air as possible.
The divers sent them food and letters from their families, even as they planned a rescue operation. They were eventually taken out after being sedated with ketamine.
