In a statement sent by the Cache County Prosecutor's Office, the Preece family said: "We appreciate the community's show of kindness as our family mourns the loss of loved ones. We ask that you respect our privacy and, more importantly, your child's privacy. We are not accepting guests at the moment. The small community was terrified of the violence.
The police gave no motive. The sheriff's office noted that county victims' rights advocates are working closely with Preece's girlfriend and her family to get the necessary resources, stressing that the tragedy is particularly traumatic for her.
She is now safe with other family members.
