A one-year-old girl was shot to death on Saturday, June 3, during an argument between adults on a Wisconsin highway, police said. The shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. in Milwaukee. The girl, identified in news reports as Zyaire Danielle Nevels, was shot while driving, police said.

Zy'Aire's grandmother, Teri Brown, told WISN that the altercation was between the boy's parents and another man. The man followed Zy'Aire's parents and shot at her car, hitting the girl four times, Brown said. Zyaire was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries, police said. According to WITI, she was a week away from her second birthday.

 

She had no chance to live. "Her life was only getting started," Brown told WISN, referring to the alleged gunman as a "monster." Officers nabbed the alleged shooter, a 27-year-old Milwaukee male, on Sunday. There are no costs posted. "I couldn't believe a one-year-old child was shot by an idiot who was aiming at a vehicle." Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said to WDJ, "It's unacceptable."
