Nesta Howells Wiki - Biography

Nesta Howells was the wife of the late Frank Bough, a renowned English television presenter. Her husband, who passed away at the age of 87 on October 21st, 2020, was widely known for his exceptional hosting skills in BBC's sports and current affairs programs, including "Grandstand," "Nationwide," and "Breakfast Time." He made a name for himself through his polished, relaxed and professional demeanour in live broadcasts and was famously referred to as "the most unassailable performer on British television" by Michael Parkinson.

However, in 1988, Frank's career took a turn when he was dismissed from the BBC due to revelations of his use of cocaine and visits to brothels. Despite this setback, he continued to make a mark in the industry, hosting programs on London Weekend Television, ITV, Sky TV, and London's LBC radio, before retiring in 1998.

Frank began his illustrious broadcasting career as a presenter and reporter for the BBC, initially with the Newcastle-based program "Home at Six," later renamed "North at Six," and finally becoming "BBC Look North." From 1964 to 1968, he hosted "Sportsview" and for 18 years starting in 1964, he presented the BBC Sports Review of the Year. Between 1968 and 1983, he served as the regular host for the BBC's popular Saturday afternoon sports program "Grandstand" for a total of 15 years.
